India’s first cannabis solution for period pain relief

Cannabis can help relieve various types of pain, and it might help you endure those nasty cramps when Aunty Flo pays a visit.

In the previous blog post, we talked about how cannabis- and CBD-infused products can be the next big trend in reproductive health because they are so effective and relatively safe with the right concentrations.

In India, the gender bias in the medical field that discounts a woman’s pain as hysteria or the taboos surrounding menstruation has manifested in the form of a lack of research to find solutions to a menstruator’s plight. HempStreet, in its endeavour to offer a more sustainable, herbal, and ayurvedic solution for medical cramps launched the first medicinal cannabis-based Trailokya Vijaya Vati.

Shrey Jain, co-founder, HempStreet, said “Menstruation as a topic is highly stigmatized in our country. Period pain is often ignored by making a significant part of women’s lifestyle and working hours stressful and painful. But the fact is that women have even described the cramping pain as ‘almost as bad as having a heart attack.’ On average, a woman goes through around 450 menstrual cycles throughout her lifetime. The irony is that the available solutions in modern medical science possess the threat of serious harmful effects in case of long-term consumption. Trailokya Vijaya Vati aims at providing a reliable, safe and ayurvedic solution to the women of 21st century.”

“Hempstreet is working in conjunction with top-notch scientists to conduct R&D around safe medication by leveraging the immense potential and natural power of Cannabis. Today HempStreet boasts of 15 approved products and a world-class research partnership with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR),” he further added.

How does it work?

Extracted from cannabis sativa (hemp), CBD is one of the cannabinoids that give the cannabis plant its medicinal properties. Our body is full of cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoids like CBD bind to these receptors, unlocking them and altering how our cells function, which is said to regulate everything from appetite and sleep to inflammation and pain. Cannabinoids are used to treat many diseases and conditions, including chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, menstrual cramps, muscle spasms, mental health, epilepsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis, sexual disorders, and more. When it comes to menstruation, the theory is that CBD can alleviate the pain and inflammation created as the uterus contracts to expel its lining.

Trailokya Vijaya Vati is an Ayurvedic solution to menstrual cramps. It is a time-tested classical Ayurveda medicine, having cannabis as one of its key ingredients and has been known to be extremely effective in soft tissue muscle pains like menstrual cramps and spasms.

Based on the initial feedback study with over 2,000 Ayurveda practitioners across India, the medicine has proven to be extremely effective and the same is true from the massive adoption that it has witnessed in a brief period of time.

Will I give it a try?

Over the years, I’ve tried everything from traditional painkillers and birth control to acupuncture, supplements and herbal baths – they have helped to varying degrees, but I’ve always dreamed that one day I’ll find a better solution.

Now that Trailokya Vijaya Vati has hit the shelves and over 2,000 Ayurveda practitioners across India claim it to be extremely effective, I am definitely looking forward to putting it to the test.
